Foodshare Australia is a Social Enterprise that is working with the restaurant industry, their customers and food relief organisations to close the gap on food security in Australia.
The Problem:
Despite Australia being a developed and wealthy country food insecurity is hitting a crisis point with over 644,000 people seeking food relief every month. These numbers are increasing with charities reporting an 8% increase on 2015 demand with up to 44,000 people being turned away each month, one in three being children (Foodbank 2015). Given this situation it is astonishing that Australia wastes 4 million tons of food annually despite the efforts of a number of food rescue organisations (Foodwise 2016).
Foodshare’s Mission:
Foodshare will provide food rescue organisations with a reliable and consistent financial support to source the necessary resource to close the gap on food security in Australia.
