The facts

11:17

The facts are shocking, in a city regarded as one of the most livable on the planet, renowned for the quality of its food, thousands struggle to put food on their plate every day.

These people aren’t just part of the 22,000 homeless in Victoria, low income families are amongst the most common group seeking assistance with 33% of assistance requests in Australia being for children (Foodbank Hunger Report 2016).

There is hope, organisations like Foodbank source and distribute food to over 451 agencies combating food insecurity, 63% of which are in the metro area. These agencies provide food relief to over 134,000 people every month.

Despite efforts from organisations like Foodbank 43,000 Australians are turned away from food assistance each month. Charities and agencies simply cannot cope with the demand.

This is where we come in.

As an avid coffee drinking, food loving Melbournian I can choose to eat a FoodShare meal at one of my favorite cafes. Everytime I choose a FoodShare item from the menu $1 from that meal goes toward combating this issue. The best part is every $1 donated allows FoodBank to distribute $9 worth of food to a family in need.

See how it works here and find a FoodShare meal at your local cafe or restaurant.
